Fun Monday: My Hood

Pamela has been so kind to host our Fun Monday this week, requesting:

I want to see what you see on any given morning this week; from somewhere very near where you live. Front porch, back porch, down the street, around the corner. Just makes sure it's your neighborhood. Post a photo that will send me to the travel agent to book a weekend at your local Bed & Breakfast. Post your October View on Monday, October 8 . Write a little or write a lot.

As I have mentioned, I am living in a hotel in Houston currently. I have always been a suburb girl. Always on the outskirts, but now, I am smack dab in the middle of Houston. A freeway running right outside, restaurants, bars, shops all within a short walk. Urban living. Concrete jungle. I love it!

It has been a rainy weekend, a busy weekend. Most All of the photos are from the window of my car, while jetting down the freeway.

This is Lakewood Church, the former basketball stadium.

Hazy rainy downtown buildings.

Street Sign.

Maybe I could take a piano back home? Strap it to the roof of my Corolla?
Right off the freeway:

Could someone translate?

This sculpture is at the Menil Art Museum. It is a bit hard to see in these tiny little photos, but each end says "Love".

How about the evening view that was so beautiful I figured out just enough Photoshop to make it a header?

Have a great Monday!

That is a very nice sunset photo! Isn't city life great!?

I've only seen Houston from the air (I thought there were trees, trees, trees, then water, water, water)
So, this is very enlightening.

Big church. Have you attended a service there? Do they allow cats? - snicker.

Yes. I think I'd like to come visit Houston and go the restaurants and the art museums... and maybe see the gulf, too.

Oh this all looks so familiar!!! Our son has been a Houstonian for decades! AND---I've experienced living in a hotel for a week or more ON 610 loop!!!---The traffic never dies down!!

Beautiful sunset, and a gorgeous skyline. Now MY neighborhood is just about 220 miles southeast of where you are.

Great fun Monday

Loved your photos. According to Hootinanni these are shots of Houston. I was guessing maybe San Diego or something. Used to live in Beaumont (where the signs were more likely to be in French) and San Antonio.

Hey I recognize that neighborhood!

So great to find another Houston blogger!

All: Thank you for stopping by!! Thanks for the kudos!

Beckie: City life is awesome! Such a change from the quiet calm of the 'burbs.

Pamela: I have gone to the church each week I have been here. It awes me each week, the size, the number of people, how great the service is even though I am sitting in the "upper deck"!

There are tons of trees and lots of bayous. Just not as many in my area. More concrete than chlorophyll.

Hootin' Anni: Corpus is a beautiful area as well! I am going to Brownsville/Padre soon. Cannot wait to see the Coast.

Walker: LOL! I have driven through Beaumont many a time on my way to New Orleans. Never stopped though! Too excited to hit Bourbon St.

You can't promote Houston too much for me!! I'm on the West side (Memorial City Area), but I'm in your neighborhood quite a bit.
If I didn't already live here, I'd book a trip right away!

Beautiful pictures of one of my favorite cities. Thanks.

Great pictures, I've never been to Texas, some day...

Great pictures! This spanish sign says something about "To your city, or that of the others" and the part on the bottom says "Work with obligation, fly with passion". Something like that loosely translated. ;-)

I love the sunset shot.

Love the sunset photo! I haven't been to Houston since sometime around 1984. I would imagine it's changed some since then. :-)

You are making me so so HOMESICK. I have been to all of those places & am guessing Min lives right by my parents. And, would you believe I use to frequent the Rockets & Aeros games inside the Summit..before it became the uber church that causes the traffic jams on the way home from our church (right by the Mexican consulate view you had.)??

Lakewood Church...is that the same place as John Osteen's Oasis of Love? I remember seeing that on TV when I lived in Houston. If you have problems translating those signs, you'd have one helluva time down here in Miami!! EVERYTHING is in Spanish. There are more Spanish TV stations than anything else, and that's with cable!

sunset is awesome! I wanna piano too, attach one to the roof for me!

I love the second photo the best. Thanks for sharing!

Love the sunset pic!
I haven't seen street lights like those. But then here we only have 4 total in town and they are quite old. I do have to admit since moving to Alaska I don't miss all the signs in different languages like we had back in Oregon.

My husband would love nothing more than to live in the middle of pretty much any downtown. All of the lights and excitment of something always going on... in a way, you are living his dream!

Do you know what song I thought of while reading this? Hazy Shade of Winter! I know I know its fall...I cant help what song pops into my head!
I never want to live in big metropolis BUT I want to be close enough to one for the shopping!

the part you're missing is "more destinations in latin america" I think.

You made a great header with that photo!

I've never been to Houston.

I've read a lot about Houston since I've been blogging and anywhere that has beautiful sunsets is somewhere I'd like to be.

The sunset is beautiful.

Is the Lakewood Church where Joel Osteen preaches?

I have never been to Houston but your pictures look inviting.

Waving to Min!!

Myanderings: Thanks!! It is a wonderful city! I really miss it! I mean I had missed it. I mean I will miss it. Ummm, whatever. Houston rocks. That is all.

Karina and Jill: Thank you, thank you for your Spanish ways! I will send more for translation once I venture from the 6 block radius I spend the majority of my time in.

Anglophile: I love Lakewood Church, but man… it just seems wrong to be worshiping in a place where I was so debaucherous!! (Is that a word? If not, I nominate it as one.)

SwampAngel65: Yes! Joel is John’s son. When John passed, Joel had little to no ministerial experience. And look what he has created!!

Deb: What kind of piano would you like? I think there will be just enough space over the trunk for a second one! My Corolla can hold half my belongings, 3 cats, 2 litterboxes and 2 baby grand pianos. Toyota should really contact me about marketing ideas.

Amanda: Thanks! I wasn’t sure about including that photo! Thanks for the kind words!

My4kids: There are just a couple of street lights like that downtown. You drive under the building walkway right there. Also - I just wish there were English subtitles on some of the signs! Especially in Chinatown!!

Susan: I never knew I would enjoy living in downtown. Before I moved to the desert, I was thinking about giving up the suburbs and moving downtown just blocks from where I am currently staying. I chickened out. It worked out in the end, but man, it would have been a fun couple of months!!

Kaytabug: HAHAHA! Winter! HAHAHA! It’s hazy and hot here for winter! Bring some flip flops and shorts for a December visit.

Karmyn: Thanks!! I sweated over Photoshop for a long time! I really need a Photoshop for Dummies book!! Houston is my favorite city of the half dozen or so I have lived in.

Chris: Oh sunsets are so beautiful here!! With the frequent rains and humidity, they always have such a beautiful color!

Mjd: Yes! I have been spending every Sunday with Joel, his beautiful wife Victoria, and a few thousand of my closest buds.

Great sunset photo!
I'm still stunned by the fact they apparently turned a basketball stadium into a church.

I actually miss living near Houston - and I have actually been IN that piano store!

You are making me want to return home...
